MCM Traing week 2 *updated

This week has been discouraging on the running front.  I haven't been able to run since last Thursday due to an illness.  I went to the doctor on Thursday morning and he said that I have Laryngitis and Bronchitis.   He told me that I was unable to return back to work on Friday and that I should rest my voice and my body as much as possible.  This is hard for me since I established a solid base of training during the Winter months and now I feel as though I am loosing some fitness.  The positive thing is that I have been able to allow my body to rest and regroup.  I decided to wait and not run until I start to feel significantly better.  I do want to run, but I don't want to sacrifice the long-term goal of the Marine Corps Marathon, just to go for a short run when I was sick.

I'm trying to use this time in a positive way, but it's not easy since something similar happened to me last year.  Last year it was walking pneumonia and it took me out for the two spring races that I had scheduled (10K and 5 mile).  This year I should be healed up to at least run the 10K on May 5, 2012.  I won't break any records, but it will be a PR (personal record) no matter the time since I don't have an official 10K time  I enjoy listening to running podcasts and reading about everything to do with running.  I was reminded that if my illness is below the neck I am supposed to rest.  If it is above the neck then I am able to run with caution.  This one is below the neck so I'm resting.  My request from you is that you pray for me to get better and that I take the time I need to rest and not rush back into training.  Please use this time to encourage me as this will be my first adversity as I work to accomplish my most difficult physical accomplishment of my life (by far).  I refuse to allow an illness to hold me back from this goal.

Oh, on a fun note, I received my MCM 2012 Brooks training hat today by Fedex.  You should have seen my face when I saw it.  I was like a kid in a candy store :-).  I will be wearing it on all my training runs and then during the actual race in October.

MCM Training week 1

I have put a lot of thought into running the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2012.  I know that accomplishing this goal will be the most challenging thing I have ever done both mentally and physically.  I had a slight setback this week.  I'm not going to be discouraged about it, but I was able to do 2 of my 3 runs this week.  Fortunately, before I started this training plan I was up to 11.5 miles at one point.  I missed my 3 mile "long run" yesterday due to sickness.  I have had a sore throat since Thursday AM.  I ran Thursday AM in the wind and it didn't feel that great, but it didn't seem like it was anything more than a sore throat.  I decided to take it easy this weekend I will try to run for 30 minutes on Tuesday.  I'm going to keep on going with my plan and go up to 4 miles for my long run on Saturday, April 7th.  That won't really feel like a long run to me since I've done some decent training this winter.

I'm excited to get into the swing of things for my training and to actually be able to run healthy.  I took a step back for the benefit of accomplishing my goal of finishing the MCM with a smile on my face!
